Amanda Ellis is a freelance writer and editor based in Perth, Western Australia. She is an experienced copyeditor and has worked in communications roles for a number of government agencies in Western Australia, including the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, the Environmental Protection Authority, and the departments of Water, and Environment (now Environment and Conservation). From October 2008 until April 2009, Amanda worked as a full-time journalist for Aspermont, a publisher of mining and construction news. During her time with the industry specialist, she worked as a staff reporter for ResourceStocks magazine and the daily news site MiningNews.net and its companion MiningNewsPremium.net. She also subedited the publisher's full range of products, including Australia's Mining Monthly, Contractor magazine and ConstructionIndustryNews.net. While living in the United Kingdom, from 2007 to 2008, Amanda was a freelance contributor to the Newsquest regional tabloid The Argus and Brighton's mind-body-spirit magazine Rocks. She completed stints on the paper's subeditors' desk and its news team, writing news stories and feature articles. Amanda has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia with a double major in marketing and human-resource management, and a minor in business law. Last year she received a Certificate in Journalism (Sub-editing) from the UK's National Council for the Training of Journalists. She is a member of the Society of Editors Western Australia and is an associate of SfEP, the UK Society for Editors and Proofreaders.
